RETRO PAY
Pay increases for the 22-23 school year were reflected on the 9/16 paycheck. Retro pay owed from the beginning of this school year was included on the 9/30 paycheck.
See below for how to calculate the amount of retro pay you should have received. The following is true for MOST employees. There may be slight differences in your calculations and what is reflected on your paycheck due to rounding. Click here to access MNPS salary schedules.
10-Month Employees – 22 paychecks annually
Step 1: 22-23 salary - 21-22 salary = annual increase
Step 2: Annual increase ÷ 22 = increase per check
Step 3: Increase per check x 3 = retro pay
Example:
$63,500 (22-23 salary) – $60,000 (21-22 salary) = $3,500 ÷ 22 = $159.09 x 3 = $477.27
Explanation:
Find the difference in how much you were making last year and this year. Divide that number by the number of paychecks you get each year to find how much more you are making per paycheck. You are owed retro pay for the three paychecks (8/05, 8/19 & 9/02).
12-Month Employees – 26 paychecks annually
Step 1: 22-23 salary - 21-22 salary = annual increase
Step 2: Annual increase ÷ 26 = increase per check
Step 3: Increase per check x 4 = retro pay
Example:
$63,500 (22-23 salary) – $60,000 (21-22 salary) = $3,500 ÷ 26 = $134.62 x 4 = $538.48
Explanation:
Find the difference in how much you were making last year and this year. Divide that number by the number of paychecks you get each year to find how much more you are making per paycheck. You are owed retro pay for four paychecks (7/22, 8/05, 8/19 & 9/02).
Hourly Employees
Step 1: 22-23 hourly rate - 21-22 hourly rate = hourly rate increase
Step 2: Look at your 8/05, 8/19, & 9/02 payslips to calculate total hours worked this school year
Step 3: Hourly rate increase x by the total hours worked this school year = retro pay
Example:
$20 (22-23 hourly rate) – $18 (21-22 hourly rate) = $2.00 x 135 hours worked = $270
Explanation:
Find the difference in how much you were making last year and this year. Add the hours you have worked this school year to get a total number of hours worked (see 8/05, 8/19, & 9/02 paychecks). Multiply the total number of hours worked by your hourly increase.
Parttime Salaried Employees
When the R-12 payroll system was updated to reflect the 22-23 salary schedule, all salaried employees got reset to fulltime pay. Overpayments were deducted from retro pay. If you do not see retro pay on your 9/30 payslip, this is why. If you owe the district more than the retro pay you were owed, someone from the MNPS payroll department will contact you to work out a payment schedule for the additional amount.
