  • Who does MNEA serve?

    • We primarily serve non-supervisory certificated employees because per state law they are the only group that we can negotiate for at the bargaining table.

    • However, anyone who receives a paycheck directly from MNPS can join as a member.

  • How can I get help from MNEA?

    • Contact your building association representative.

    • Or, if you don’t have a building representative or still need more assistance, contact Dr. Paula Pendergrass by emailing paula.pendergrass@mnea.com.

  • Is MNEA just for teachers who get “In Trouble”?

    • No. While we provide legal support for our members, our primary focus is to empower and amplify the collective voice of professional educators to fight for public education, our profession, our students, and our communities. 

  •  Can I get legal representation for something that happened before I joined?

    • No. Just like you can’t buy car insurance after you have an accident, you must be a member for 30 days in order to qualify for legal representation from our attorneys. However, you are still entitled to support and assistance from our UniServ staff, MNEA officers, and Association Representatives once you join. We also provide a discounted attorney-referral program for members to use for incidents that happen before joining or during the first 30 days. 

  • Do you supply individual support to non-members?

    • While our organizing work involves members and non-members alike, we are only able to provide individual support and advocacy to our members.

  • What options do I have for paying membership dues?

    • Membership dues can be paid by check, savings, or credit card at a rate of $61.58 per month. Members can also pay in one lump sum using a check. Annual dues are currently $739.00 per year for full time certificated employees. 

      Educational support professionals (ESP), 120-day employees, and substitutes may also join at a lower rate. 

      ESP rate: $390/year. $32.50/month.

      120 day employee: $381/year. $31.75/month

      Substitute rate: $202/year. $16.83/month

  • Do I have to pay additional dues for Tennessee Education Association (TEA) and National Education Association (NEA)?

    • The dues you pay to MNEA include membership to the Local (MNEA), State (TEA), and National Affiliate (NEA).
