To Nullify or Not Nullify: 2020-21 Edition

Should I nullify?

If you are a tenured teacher, you may want to nullify if your 2018-19 LOE score was a 5 and your 2020-21 LOE score dropped below a 5. Keeping the lower score will result in more observations for the 2021-22 school year.

If your 2018-19 LOE score was a 2-4, and your 2020-21 LOE score is a 2-4, you can decide if you want to nullify or not. LOE scores of 2-4 all are evaluated the same number of times per school year.

If your 2018-19 LOE score was a 2 or above and your 2020-21 LOE score dropped to a 1, you may want to nullify. An LOE score of 1 requires more observations.

If you are a non-tenured teacher, nullifying your LOE score could impact tenure eligibility. To be considered for tenure, you must have consecutive years of 4’s and 5’s. An LOE score of 3 or lower stops analysis for tenure.  Nullification stops analysis for tenure. Feel free to nullify an LOE of 1-3, but it isn’t recommended that a non-tenured teacher nullify a 4 or 5.

How do I nullify my 2020-21 LOE score?

To nullify your score, go to the 2020-21 evaluation in TN Compass. Scroll down to the bottom left. Select the nullification option check box in the area where you PIN. Nullifying will require your personal identification number (PIN) as a signature. If your evaluator has not PINNED, then you will not see this option. Ask your evaluator to PIN if they have not. Technical guidance on this process will be issued prior to the nullification window.

MNPS educators can check your school email for information from MNPSHumanResources@mnps.org and mnpsteam@mnps.org about these processes.
