When Will MNPS Return to In-Person Classes?
MNPS developed a tool to help educators and the community track when it will be safe to return to in-person instruction. The MNPS COVID-19 tracker uses metrics found at asafenashville.org to calculate the spread of COVID-19 in Nashville. The score is weighted at 60% for the 7-day average of new cases per 100,000 residents, 20% for the 7-day positive test rate, and 20% for the transmission rate.
The phase-in for in-person learning will begin after the risk score on the COVID-19 tracker is below 7. For the risk score to decrease, community spread of COVID-19 in Nashville needs to be low. We can all do our part to help mitigate the spread by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and washing hands frequently so MNPS educators and students can safely return to in-person learning.
MNPS Director of Schools, Dr. Adrienne Battle, announced on Friday, 1/15/21, that due to the uncontrolled spread of the virus MNPS will resume virtual classes on Tuesday, 1/19/21. MNEA supports Dr. Battle’s decision to prioritize staff, student, and community health by remaining virtual until Nashville can mitigate the spread of the virus.

Let’s all do our part so we can safely return to in-person teaching and learning.
