Update ON COVID-19 Leave

COVID Leave Update

The district ended the original COVID leave policy that allowed teachers to work remotely while in isolation. Starting September 6, 2022, staff who isolate due to COVID will have three options for leave: sick leave, personal leave, and professional leave. Per MOU p.47:

Professional Leave

Without loss of pay, a professional employee upon approval of the principal or immediate supervisor shall be allowed five days absence in any school year to attend educational meetings provided that only such meetings shall be considered “educational meetings” as shall be approved by the Director of Schools, and provided further that a professional employee shall be an elected delegate, an official of the organization meeting, a committee member with responsibilities at said meeting, or an invited participant on the official program. Notification of such absence shall be filed with the principal or immediate supervisor not less than five days prior to such meeting. Absence for professional reasons other than those specified above (for visiting schools, attending educational conventions, planning and preparing lessons, or other similar purposes) shall be allowed without loss of pay to the extent of five days in any school year, provided such absence is recommended in writing by the principal and approved by the principal.According to the Inside MNPS email sent 9/01/22, the district indicated it "will be waiving any advance notice requirements for this leave if a teacher or staff member is quarantining due to COVID for the 22-23 school year; however, principals will still be required to approve the leave request.
