The Metro Nashville Education Association (MNEA) – is a local association representing educators in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. MNEA is seeking a highly qualified individual to provide member mobilization and new member recruitment for the local association.
 
This position will be expected to operate with a high level of independence and a high degree of independent judgment in various organizing campaigns under the general supervision of the Executive Board.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary responsibility of the Organizer is to build strong, effective internal structures through the application of organizing skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will have responsibility for the following:

  • Implementing internal organizing campaigns by working with the Executive Board, Organizing Director, Committee Chairs, rank-and-file leaders, and members.

  • Carrying out campaign timetables.

  • Identifying and recruiting new member activists and prospective member leaders.

  • Identifying and training building representatives at each school and establishing Faculty Advisory Committees.

  • Recruiting members to join action committees and take part in leadership training.

  • Facilitating and/or assisting with the training and development of association members and staff.

  • Planning and leading membership meetings, workshops, rallies, and other actions.

  • Identifying and maintaining contact with Building Representatives and other leaders about worksite issues, assignments, events, turnout, etc.

  • Assisting with planning and execution of membership blitzes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
The successful candidate for the position will clearly demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to the labor movement;

  • Ability to manage relationships both upwards and downwards, as well as throughout the local affiliate organizations;

  • Ability to work in partnership with MNEA Board of Directors and Organizing Director to build density and capacity, as well as work on special projects that may be designated;

  • Knowledge of association organizing practices and principles, and familiarity with state labor laws;

  • Evening and weekend work will be involved and this position may require travel throughout the state and work in other states for various lengths of time;

  • High level of project management skill, and the proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and balance competing priorities;

  • Strong working knowledge of database programs and the ability to utilize effectively organizing tools;

  • Maintain trust and confidence of multiple levels of association leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
The successful candidate for the position will clearly possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct organizing experience required

  • Driver’s license, vehicle and auto insurance required

  • Strong ability to prioritize, plan, organize, carry out multiple assignments, and work effectively under pressure

  • Strong professionalism and interpersonal skills in diverse situations

  • Additional language skills encouraged but not required

Salary & Benefits: $55,000 – $59,000 depending on experience, plus benefits.
