2021-2022 Retention Committee Update

The Memorandum of Understanding directs MNPS and MNEA to form a Retention Committee for the purpose of addressing matters related to retention strategies. The Committee is charged with collaborating to identify and present retention strategies and recommendations to the Director of Schools. The committee is comprised of MNPS staff, MNEA leadership, and classroom teachers.

Current Work in Progress or Addressed in Prior Years:

·       Tenure Procedure Revision (in process)

·       Benefits – Working on paid leave (proposed by Mayor Cooper – not yet funded)

·       Compensation Increases

·       Planning Days/Calendar Support

·       Pilot programs to re-imagine teacher experience

·       Revised and launched leadership framework

Current Consensus around Strategies to Increase Teacher Retention:

·       Increased access to instructional and assessment materials

·       Intentional efforts to improve teacher self-efficacy and related supports

·       Continue to leverage school-based budgets to drive support for educators and students

·       Prioritizing Talent/Culture of Belonging & Develop Your People as a leadership priority

·       Develop a strategy for new educator/employee supports

The Retention Committee will continue to meet next year to improve retention of MNPS faculty and staff.
