Nashville’s Educators Announce Endorsements in School Board General Election
The Metropolitan Nashville Education Association Political Action Committee for Education (MNEA-PACE) voted to endorse candidates in the Metropolitan School Board primary race to be voted on in May.
“In the District 2 School Board race, the committee voted to support the incumbent Rachael Anne Elrod because of the impressive work she has done as a School Board Member and School Board Vice Chair. She is thoughtful in her decision making and supportive of students and educators,” according to MNEA-PACE Chair Dr. Paula Pendergrass. Mrs. Elrod is an MNPS parent and former educator.
In the District 4 School Board race, the MNEA-PACE Committee voted to endorse Dr. Berthena Nabaa-McKinney. Dr. Nabaa-McKinney is a parent, McGavock Cluster PAC Chair, and a former MNPS educator. MNEA-PACE Member Susan Floyd notes, “Dr. Nabaa-McKinney's experience in MNPS, her open line of communication and work with community partners who impact our schools makes her a clear choice for me as my District 4 School Board member.”
In District 6, one candidate sought and won the endorsement of MNEA, Cheryl Mayes. As a past School Board Member, she has a knowledge of our district and understanding of what can and should be done in our schools. “I remember when Cheryl Mayes was previously School Board Chair. During that time, she worked tirelessly to promote and defend our schools,” remarked MNEA President Michele Sheriff.
In District 8, MNEA-PACE voted to endorse Erin O’Hara Block. Ms. Block is an MNPS parent, PTO leader and volunteer tutor. “With Ms. Block’s experience, she will use data to make well-crafted, nuanced decisions about education,” stated MNEA-PACE Member Amy Flatt.
