MNEA-PACE recommends school board candidates

The Metropolitan Nashville Education Association Political Action committee for Education (MNEA-PACE) recently met with candidates in School Board Districts 2, 6, and 9.  The MNEA-PACE is recommending the following candidates to Nashville's teachers because of their commitment to children and the classroom:

District 2: Joann Brannon.  Dr. Brannon is a retired Metro teacher/administrator who has proven herself as a true instructional leader.  MNEA president Erick Huth refers to Brannon as "a friend to teachers and students, who makes all of her decisions based on what's best for instruction."

District 6: Cheryl D. Mayes.  Ms. Mayes, a parent leader in the Antioch area, is a new-comer to the Board of education who is unopposed in her bid for the District 6 seat.  Huth says, "Mayes really impressed our committee with knowledge of the issues facing our schools."

District 9: Kay S. Simmons.  Ms. Simmons, former Executive Director of the Nashville Alliance for Public Education, is no stranger to Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.  Simmons, who was elected on an interim basis by the Metro Council, displayed a deep sense of caring for students and teachers alike.

The Metropolitan Nashville Education Association is the union representing over Nashville's teachers and other professional employees of Metropolitan Nashville Public School.  MNEA's mission is to promote excellence in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, seek community support for public education, secure economic and professional security for educators, maintain a strong united teaching organization, advance human and civil rights in education, and empower teachers!

MNEA-PACE is the political, lobbying arm of Nashville's teachers. Its mission is to elect candidates to local public office within Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County who are supportive of public school teachers, students, and public education in general.  Membership in MNEA-PACE is achieved by making the minimum contribution to MNEA-PACE.  The governing council of the PACE is comprised of teachers elected from across the school district.
