PALS Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I order supplies?

There are forms available in your school office for ordering. When using 2314 money, first see if the item is available from the Metro Warehouse. If it is not, you may order from several approved vendors who have sent catalogs to the school office. 2314 money is handled differently in various schools. Check with your Faculty Advisory Committee to see how the money is allocated in your school. 2314 money can be used for instructional materials, not office furniture.

2. What is BEP money? How much money do I get? How can I spend it?

BEP money is provided by the state of Tennessee to assist teachers with getting the supplies they need. Each teacher gets $100 to spend on consumable items for his/her classroom. Remember to keep your receipts.  They are due into your school office at the end of the year. An additional $100 per teacher is also allotted to the school to be pooled. The Faculty Advisory Committee meets to decide how that money is spent.

3. What is CTE money? How much do I get? How can I spend it?

Each teacher in Metro will receive $100 for consumable supplies funded by the school system. Remember to keep your receipts. They are due into your school office at the end of the year.

4. How many sick days, personal days, and professional days do I get?

Each year, you will receive 10 sick days. If these days are not used by the end of the year, they roll over to the following year. You also get two personal days, which will roll over as sick days if they are not used. You are allowed to take up to 5 professional leave days per year. Professional leave does not accumulate.

5. How do I apply for personal and professional leave?

There are forms in your school office. The principal must sign the form in order for your leave to be approved. Personal leave may not be taken on the day before or after a holiday. Principals will refuse leave requests if over 5% of the faculty will be out on that day. Personal leave requests must be made at least three (3) days in advance. Professional leave requests must be made at least five (5) days in advance.

6. What if I forget my substitute system employee number?

If you forget your number, call the help desk at 271-1742 or sign onto the substitute system using the employee number on your paycheck stub.

7. How long do I need to keep students' work?

It is recommended that you keep the work for the school year. This does not mean that you cannot send graded work home for the parents to see. You can require that the work be signed and returned.
